Beware Of Some Men Skincare Products
Why the warning? What is there to be alarmed about in a simple skin cream for men? What is going on? Well, to cut a long story short, many of these products which are supposedly the best natural skin care for men, are not natural at all. In fact they may contain some great organic and botanical stuff such as algae or other plant materials but they also contain some chemicals too which can be harmful.

Let me give you an example. If you see the parabens in there such as propylparaben, methylparaben and ethylparaben, then these are preservatives. They help to stop bacteria and moulds from forming and will lengthen shelf life of a product considerably. But they are synthetically produced by mixing para-hydroxybenzoic acid which are then mixed with some alcohols.

You might get an allergic reaction. But prolonged use can actually upset your endocrine system and lead to other health problems. Did you know that these parabens can mimic the estrogen hormone and thus are implicated in some cancers? They can also have a negative effect on the male reproductive system.

There is a department of Toxicology at the Tokyo Metropolitan Research Laboratory which has investigated this and found that there were negative effects on the male reproductive system and also affected the testosterone levels in males.

There are some people like the FDA who say that these are within the safety limits set up by them and they have been in use since the 1920s. Now that we know more, we should be extra careful about plastering these on our faces and bodies. Certainly they will penetrate the skin and are absorbed into human tissue. It cannot be taken for granted that they will be excreted in the usual ways.

There are safe alternatives to paraben-based preservatives in men skincare products such as grapeseed and citrus fruit extracts, tocopherols, rosemary extract and the natural Vitamin E. All these can do the job as well as the parabens and will keep the product in top shape although shelf life may well be shorter. However, you are safe in the knowledge that there are no harmful chemicals at all in the mix and that is very reassuring.
