Why all the fuss about the paraben free face care and why are people so concerned? One reason is that research from The University of Brunel in the UK has shown that the parabens mimic estrogen and are therefore linked to breast cancer in women.It may not be the direct cause but the fact that these have been found in cancerous tissue is enough to sound alarm bells.
Basically the parabens which are commonly known as ethylparaben, methylparaben and butylparaben are in most personal care products because they are great preservatives and have been in use now for almost a century! They stop products from going mouldy and that is great! It is fantastic for the cosmaceutical companies because it will give the products a longer shelf life. They could not give a damn about the health of the consumer who just happens to be paying for the product!
They are everywhere in the personal care industry and given that our skin can absorb over 60% of whatever we put on it, it is especially important when we come to choosing paraben free lotions and creams. You can imagine getting a daily dose of these. Much better to go without and find products which are totally safe.
However, there is also other bad news because they are also linked to allergies and are generally regarded as being highly toxic! These seemingly harmless preservatives, have now been linked with problems of undescended testicles, low sperm count and even prostate disorders. There seems to be growing evidence of a possible link with disruption of the endocrine system and that they may block or mimic hormones
That is whey paraben free face care is so important. If the product states that there are no parabens in the mix, then that is really a very good sign. Why not go for safer treatment when the extra cost is minimal?
