  • Risks of Chemical Peels – Do You Really Know What Is Going On?
  • While the idea of a chemical peel can be very attractive in that a new layer of skin appears and the old dead skin is sloughed off, there are certain risks.  I want to outline what these risks of chemical peels are in this post.

Most of the acids used in chemical peels are either derived from milk or citrus fruits and are known as AHAs. (alpha hydroxyl acids). The most common ones used are glycolic, tartaric, salicylic, lactic and malic acids.

risks of chemical peelsThere are now clinics specializing in lunchtime peels and here very mild acids are used and the whole process is very quick, as its name suggests. Another type is where a vacuum spreads microscopic crystals over the skin. This is equally effective in removing the outer layer.

Another popular type of chemical peel uses phenol or phenic acid. These are usually very effective and sometimes one sitting is sufficient to remove spots and other blemishes and other irregularities of skin tone and texture.

However there are certain risks, as with all peels. The most common ones are:-

    • Skin needs permanent sun protection after application (this is especially true of phenol)
    • ·        Burns, rashes and swelling may be a nasty consequence.
    • ·        Spots, blisters and irregular and irremovable spots may appear.
    • ·        Scarring may occur and it will be well nigh impossible to remove this.
    • ·        The long term photocarcinogenic effects of repeatedly using glycolic peels are unknown.

Perhaps the most serious warning comes from The Cancer Prevention Coalition which points the finger at glycolic face peels are among the top ten most dangerous personal care treatments on the market to-day!

If you are concerned about the risks of chemical peels, why not visit the main website here for a much safer and completely organic option which will never put your health at risk. Frankly, there is too much at stake here!
